Living with Domestic Violence

When you are living with domestic violence it can feel like you’re the only one, and nobody understands. People often think that domestic abuse doesn’t affect young people, and adults sometimes feel like they can hide what is really happening. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not happening, and often what you can hear, paints a different picture in your head than what you can see. When it is happening it can make you feel frightened, upset, scared and angry, and you have a right to all these feelings.
Other young people have said ……….

  • "Felt too scared tell anyone, because I was worried about what would happen"
  • "Being sent to my room, and told to be quiet"
  • "Scary as you never knew what would happen next"
  • "Confusing and upsetting as I never understood why it was happening"
  • "Always waiting to see if he was in a good mood, and being told to be quiet all the time"

As you can see you are not alone and we are here to help.
