Learn it, Live it!

What it’s all about?
Learn it, Live it is a 6 week course for 14-25 year olds that looks at the subject of healthy relationships. We talk about some really important issues that us young people face today like drugs, alcohol, sex and domestic violence.

Where we do it?
We go into loads of different places across Cardiff like youth clubs, youth hostels and refuges.

Who delivers the course?
The course is run by youth workers from Cardiff Women’s Aid. It’s all really informal; the whole aim of the course is to get you talking about the issues that affect you. We’re not here to tell you what to do, we just want to give you a relaxed environment to tell us about your experiences and hopefully learn from some of ours.

How long does it last?
The course lasts for 6 weeks. We do one session a week and each session goes on for an hour.

A little more about the course..
The first session we do is called Identity. We look at what makes us individual and the different groups we may be a part of like Goths, Chavs etc. and we try to show you that even if you’re part of a group we’re all still individuals.

The second session is Beliefs and Behaviours and we quickly look at all the different religions and peoples attitudes toward them. We also talk about discrimination and how that can really hurt the victim.

The next session is called Under the Influence of.., which covers drugs, alcohol, and other influences in our life like role models.

Session 4 is Sex and the aim of the session is to give you a better understanding about what makes a good sexual relationship and how to spot a bad one. We also look at what you can do to keep yourself safe.

The next week is all about Telecommunications, like mobile phones and Facebook and we talk about how they can be used to harass and bully someone. And finally the last session is Community and we tell you about all the help that’s out there if you need it.
