Refuge

Immediate help; intake and assessment
We can offer an intake and assessment refuge that can be accessed at all hours. This refuge is designed for short stays of up to two weeks so that you, and any children you have, can have time to recover from an immediate crisis and can access your options in a secure environment. This refuge is staffed so there is always someone to offer you whatever support and advice you need.

A range of options
After intake and assessment Cardiff Women’s Aid can help you decide what to do next. We can help you access temporary accommodation with a social housing provider, refer you to another organisation that can better help you, house you in one of our refuges or help you return home if it is safe to do so. If you wish to return home we can try and provide you with better security at your home address. We recognise that it is best to keep disruption to a minimum and that it is the perpetrator that should be forced by legal, community and family pressure to leave the family home.

Our refuges
Cardiff Women’s Aid has three other houses in safe locations in the city. Cardiff Women’s Aid aim to empower women so they are able to take control over their own lives and will support you so you are able to do this.

Floating support
Cardiff Women’s Aid can also support you for up to twelve weeks in your own home, providing that your abusive partner is not present. Domestic violence can have lasting consequences that you may feel you need support to deal with. Similarly, your life may have changed in other ways, eg: education or employment, which adds extra challenges and complications.
